The Student Screenplay Competition seeks to provide a development and mentoring environment for three high school finalists that allows participants to experience the working life of a professional screenwriter.

Winners-Winners

Students enter a screenplay by January 15.

Winners

Three finalists take part in our Screenwriting Intensive, a two-to-three month process of doing script revisions under the guidance of a professional writer and a studio development executive.

The finalists then meet one-on-one with entertainment industry mentors to discuss their scripts. Often these meeting also include conversations about school, internships, the business, and many other topics. Mentors include studio and network development executives, writers, directors, agents, and managers.

Mentors have included execs from Disney, Warner Bros., MGM, Fox, Paramount, Showtime, HBO, the WB Network, CBS & ABC, as well as screenwriters of films like Legally Blonde, Bring It On, The Grudge, Daddy Day Camp, crazy/beautiful, The Jane Austen Book Club, Ali, In the Bedroom, Nixon, She's the Man, The Princess Diaries, Memoirs of a Geisha, and numerous other films.

Selected students also receive a scholarship to a writing class in the U.S.C. School of Cinema-Television Summer Program.

The Student Screenwriting Competition is an extremely demanding project. Writing a script and becoming a finalist is only the first step. The time commitment for the three finalists is extensive. Students are expected to rise to a level of professionalism they have likely never been asked to achieve. But the potential benefits are extraordinary and life-changing.

Deadline: January 15. Get an Entry Form.
